Doubting Mantis

The form precipitation took—

a pitiful, will-o’-the-wisp mist—

would have disappointed even

a dyed-in-the-wool optimist.

So a Mantis praying

for the end of the drought

looked like a grasshopper

discombobulated by doubt.
